Witham continue to display a great team ethic attacking and defending as a unit and within the first 10 minutes were 1-0 up. A free flowing move up the pitch gave Man-of-the-match Maka an awkward angle in the D which he smashed into the Havering goal. Witham then began to dictate the game with fast fluent passing between the midfield quartet of Bellehewe, Hanley, Girling and Widdowson. A poor pass from the left saw Havering pressurise the Witham defensive trio of Ledwell, Reeve and Holm and Witham conceded a penalty corner. With Havering already having one short corner narrowly miss the goal from a drag flick Witham knew what to expect but unfortunately were powerless to stop the Havering strikers second drag flick leaving the score 1-1 at the break.
With the second half underway Witham seemed to slow down their play and pass the ball around the Havering team sharply. Ian Bellehewe received the ball on the Havering 25 yard line and with some silky stick work rounded two players and slipped the ball past the Havering keeper. Witham then seemed to take the game by the scruff of the neck and attacked the Havering goal winning short corner after short corner. With some excellent routines Witham were 3-1 up through Hill then 4-1 only minutes later with Maka scoring his second. With 20 minutes still to play Witham played with more and more confidence whilst the Havering player’s heads seem to drop. Witham took advantage of this with Chada getting his first and Maka scoring a hat trick. 6-1 at the final whistle.
“An away game to London Metropolitan University XI next week will be a stern test for us, but I believe we have a strong squad this season and are hoping to push for top honours.” said Witham Skipper Ledwell.
