The score line did not reflect the dominance of the Witham team for most of the game, but they were unable to turn that possession into actual goals other than a great strike from Clare Bellehewe and an own goal by a Chelmsford back. The water based pitch made for a fast and furious game with some end to end play. Early on Witham keeper Moose Fussell, returning after an extensive lay off from injury, made a couple of great saves to deny Chelmsford a goal. However, when Witham got into their stride they completely outplayed Chelmsford especially in their ability to zone out free hits and finished their first game worthy winners for their new captain Hannah Cagney's first game in charge.

From the start Witham dominated the first half allowing forward, Claire Bellehewe, an early break resulting in the 1st goal. Withams accurate passing throughout the field led to the 2nd goal by Hannah Cagney, again from open play. Upminster responded with a rather scrappy goal after some rigorous defending however a short corner awarded on the half time whistle let Sarah Besford collect the rebound and slot it passed the keeper making it 3-1. The second half was looking like it was going Upminster’s way although some great saves by Withams goal keeper kept the score. Witham went on to score 3 more times by the first half scorers, from open play and another short corner ensuring another great win for the Witham side.

After such a promising start to the season Witham were disappointed with the result of their match against Wapping this Saturday. Witham were awarded a short corner early on which resulted in the strike being saved on the line by a Wapping defender. Wapping replied with 2 goals shortly after ending the first half 2-0. Witham had several chances in the circle although they were not able to finish and another shot from a short corner was saved on the line. Wapping continued to attack and were awarded another 2 goals from open play during the second half. Although playing well Witham were not able to come back, the team now need to look forward to their home game against Essex Uni next week.

Witham had another good result this weekend with a 4-0 win over Essex Uni. A good start from Witham forced an early error in the circle resulting in a short corner which produced the 1st goal swiftly slotted in by captain Hannah Cagney. Strong attacking from the Witham forwards created the second goal swept in by Marianne Cronin and another shortly followed again by Hannah Cagney from open play. Essex Uni couldn’t get near the Witham goal in the first half due to some great defending. The second half wasn’t as composed and Witham struggled to keep their heads and accuracy although the Uni still didn’t respond. The fourth goal came as midfielder Cathy Barber sent an excellent pass through to a Witham forward who deflected it passed the goal keeper. A special mention for the Witham goalie, Michelle Fussell, who didn’t touch the ball once in the match!
